Snooker has it origins from the game of billiards which can be dated back to the 16th century.
Billiards was popular with the British Armed forces stationed in India during the 1800s. Colonel Neville Chamberlain developed the Snooker game in a Officers Mess in India in 1875. The game spread through army postings throughout the British Empire and gained popularity among officers. The Snooker rules where recognized by The Billiards Association in 1900. This was the foundation for the modern game of snooker as we now know and love.
